Job Description

Position Overview

This role is responsible for receiving, processing, and managing specimens in a professional office environment. The candidate will verify specimen details, prepare specimens for send‐out, and ensure data accuracy through meticulous data entry while strictly adhering to safety protocols and compliance standards. The position requires regular communication with clients regarding specimen requirements and involves physical activities such as standing, walking, and manual handling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receives specimens and verifies the correct name and tests ordered.
  • Ensures the adequacy and appropriateness of samples received.
  • Labels, aliquots, and prepares specimens for send‐out to reference labs.
  • Discards specimens older than 7 days per established protocols.
  • Centrifuges, sorts, and numbers specimens as needed.
  • Enters client and specimen data into the computer, ensuring accuracy.
  • Answers telephone inquiries regarding specimen requirements and test turnaround times.
  • Decontaminates bench tops according to instructions and wears all protective equipment per policy.
  • Complies with applicable legal requirements, internal compliance, Code of Conduct, State, and CLIA standards.
  • Participates in orientation, compliance, and HIPAA training programs and reports any non-compliance concerns.
  • Engages in process improvement activities and seeks coaching/mentoring when appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor in Science.
  • Data entry and computer skills required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior laboratory experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated accuracy and precision in completing tasks.
