Job Description
Position Overview
CareFirst is hiring for a Data Scientist- ID/STRAT and Program Evaluation on the Health Economics and Reporting team. The role involves identifying and solving business problems using advanced numerical techniques, statistical modeling, machine learning, operations research, and data mining. You will support data science initiatives, communicate across product teams and with customers, and act as a liaison between analytics and business units. This position is based in the greater Baltimore/Washington metropolitan area and offers a hybrid work model.
Key Responsibilities
- Mines and extracts data and applies algorithms to derive insights. Contributes to analytics, reporting, and data governance related to Member Identification/Stratification (ID/STRAT), Attribution/Program Assignment, Data Extracts/Sharing, Population Health Management, Predictive Modeling, and Program Evaluation. Supports AI implementations, IT/Data Management partnerships, vendor support, and related functions.
- Explores data to understand its profile and limitations.
- Assists business units in the innovation of organizational performance.
- Utilizes existing data science tools to explore data patterns.
- Translates business priorities into data science deliverables.
- Reviews trends in the ML/AI/DS space and integrates new designs into solutions and products.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience (an additional 4 years in lieu of a degree).
- Experience Required: 3 years of relevant work experience.
- Ability to work independently without detailed guidance.
- Ability to communicate effectively and document objectives and procedures.
- Capability to leverage a variety of data science tools and frameworks.
- Knowledge in model evaluation, tuning, performance, operationalization, and scalability of scientific techniques.
- Understanding of software engineering principles and practices.
- Proficiency in statistical modeling applications and the ability to manage multiple customer service demands effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior Healthcare analytics experience is a must.
- Experience in relevant domains.
- Experience delivering work consistently and transparently to internal and external business partners.

- Salary: $86,400 - $171,600
