Position Overview

As a Sustaining Manufacturing Engineer I, you will be at the heart of our manufacturing operations—troubleshooting issues, improving processes, and supporting new product launches. Your work will drive continuous improvement and deliver smart water solutions worldwide, all within an inclusive and dynamic environment that values diversity and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Support manufacturing operations by troubleshooting production issues and making necessary repairs, including assisting with product support issues and validation.
- Support the New Product Development process during the transition of released products to full production.
- Initiate and implement engineering change requests.
- Design and perform product and design verification tests.
- Create Level III procedures, process documents, and work instructions for the production floor.
- Contribute to all ISO audits on the production floor to ensure required certifications are maintained.
- Research and propose safe, reliable, and cost-effective equipment and processes to meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives.
- Apply project management basics to manufacturing projects to meet cost and schedule targets.
- Utilize established Lean Six Sigma tools across the organization.
- Adhere to Badger Meter safety policies on all projects and equipment.
- Balance work responsibilities with a 50/50 split between manufacturing floor activities and desk work, including weekend support as needed.
- Travel up to 5% annually, including occasional domestic and international trips.
- Implement new technologies in manufacturing, assembly, test, and packaging to enhance quality, reliability, and value.
- Document and maintain procedures that support high-quality processes and capable equipment.
- Maintain and improve current testing and assembly processes to meet quality standards.
Required Qualifications
- No previous experience required.
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Ability to operate on a manufacturing floor as applicable.
- Basic to intermediate computer skills in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Project.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with statistical tools for data-driven decision-making (Preferred).
- Familiarity with PFMEA and DFMA (Preferred).
- Basic understanding of SQL or a related database language (Preferred).
- Understanding of Lean Six Sigma principles (green belt level) (Preferred).
- Strong problem-solving skills (Preferred).
- Ability to analyze design from an assembly and manufacturability perspective (Preferred).
