Job Description
Position Overview
Hennepin Healthcare, an integrated system of care including a nationally recognized Level I Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center, is seeking a Medical Technologist – Molecular Diagnostics (250353). In this full-time, day shift role (with some on-call coverage), you will work in our Molecular Diagnostics team performing clinical laboratory testing of moderate to highly complex specimens. You will follow established protocols for patient identification, specimen handling, diagnostic testing, and quality assurance while also playing a leadership role when needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow established laboratory procedures including patient identification, specimen collection, diagnostic clinical testing, documentation, and data entry.
- Recognize, document, and communicate unusual and/or critical result values based on training and protocols.
- Maintain competence in five work stations or work areas as defined by the section.
- Perform and monitor quality control processes and record keeping systems, participating in quality improvement programs to assure test accuracy.
- Conduct calibration, maintenance, and performance checks on instrumentation and assist in developing technical procedures per regulatory protocols.
- Troubleshoot instrumentation, reagents, and sample issues, evaluating methods for effective resolutions.
- Act as charge tech when assigned and assist in training/mentoring new staff members or student interns.
- Molecular Diagnostics: Perform molecular testing including DNA/RNA extraction, amplification, capillary electrophoresis, and data analysis.
- Molecular Diagnostics: Assist in developing new molecular tests with a focus on Molecular Oncology, Genomics, and Hematopathology.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Laboratory Science.
- Completion of a CLS/MLS/MT training program approved by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or an approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Laboratory experience in areas such as Genetics/Genomics, Oncology, Histocompatibility, Infectious Disease, Molecular Identity Testing, or informatics for clinical laboratory test interpretation.
- License/Certifications: Must possess certification as a Medical Technologist (MT[ASCP]), Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS[NCA]), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS[ASCP]), or Molecular Biology Technologist (MB[ASCP]); or be eligible for certification under defined conditions.
