Job Description
Position Overview
This position supports a portfolio of health policy and health economics research projects in collaboration with faculty at the Center for Mental Health and Addiction Policy, the Hopkins Housing and Health Collaborative, and the Hopkins Business of Health Initiative. The successful Sr. Data Analyst will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing plans to translate large healthcare datasets – including Medicaid, Medicare, commercial, and all-payer claims – into actionable insights. You will provide expertise in data analysis, create impactful data visualizations, and serve as a consultant to support strategic decision-making across programs and projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Align assessment strategy with strategic objectives and goals.
- Translate data into insights to support positive and enhanced outcomes.
- Collaborate with leadership to plan and implement assessment activities, including consultation on data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Prepare an annual assessment report summarizing findings across the school/division.
- Lead the design of clean, impactful, and user-friendly data visualizations that support strategic goals.
- Communicate findings through dashboards, reports, briefing decks, scorecards, and executive briefings using tools like Power BI and Tableau.
- Provide insights on data patterns and trends, and make strategic recommendations based on analysis.
- Design and build data visualizations from concept through to final presentation, guided by principles of effective data storytelling.
- Collect and analyze complex data, perform statistical analysis, and summarize findings in reports.
- Utilize data visualization techniques to clarify complex processes or datasets.
- Conduct quality assurance reviews of all data visualizations to ensure accuracy, usability, and adherence to style guidelines.
- Create and maintain a repository of analysis documents, slides, and dashboard links.
- Develop efficient systems for planning and administering surveys to maximize the collection of actionable data.
- Perform data intake and cleaning tasks on large administrative datasets, such as insurance claims.
- Utilize advanced statistical and programming software (e.g., SAS, Stata, SQL, R, Python) to conduct exploratory and hypothesis-driven analysis.
- Solve complex data problems using appropriate methodologies including advanced regression modeling and econometrics.
- Collaborate with faculty on data visualizations, interpretation, and manuscript preparation.
- Support the mentorship of junior data analyst colleagues.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree.
- Experience Required: Five years of related experience (additional education may substitute for required experience as permitted by the JHU equivalency formula).
- Advanced knowledge of analysis software such as Power BI, Tableau, and Excel.
- Understanding of relational and dimensional data models and structures.
- Experience working with querying tools such as SQL, Python, and R.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Master’s Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Economics, Public Health, or a related field preferred.
Benefits & Perks
- Salary: $62,900 - $110,100 Annually (Commensurate w/exp.)
- Schedule: Monday to Friday: 8:30am - 5:00pm
