Job Description

Position Overview

Position: Hospital Housekeeping Attendant - FT - Evening Shift. The incumbent performs a variety of cleaning, maintenance, and sanitary duties at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation under the direct supervision of a higher-ranking supervisory employee. This role involves working in various hospital units—from patient rooms and public bathrooms to specialized areas such as trauma, intensive care, and emergency rooms—to ensure a clean and safe environment. Compensation: Hourly Range: $18.44 - $23.78.

Key Responsibilities

  • Vacuum, sweep, mop, and buff offices, corridors, stairs, stairwells, walls, furniture, and equipment.
  • Use extension poles, ladders, and scaffolds for cleaning walls, ceilings, light fixtures, drapes, and cubicle curtains.
  • Shampoo and change rugs when necessary.
  • Clean patient rooms to minimize the possible spread of infection.
  • Collect and transport linens to laundry and return them to assigned areas.
  • Gather and dispose of refuse as directed.
  • Clean public and patient bathrooms by scouring sinks, wet mopping floors, disinfecting toilet bowls, wiping surfaces, and replenishing supplies.
  • Move furniture and equipment to support cleaning tasks.
  • Maintain housekeeping supply rooms throughout the facility.
  • Operate a variety of manual and mechanical cleaning equipment.
  • Perform housekeeping in specialized areas such as trauma units, intensive care, cardiac care, and emergency rooms, maintaining sterile conditions.
  • Clean and maintain areas containing scientific apparatus, laboratory supplies, experimental projects, and animals.
  • Clean isolated rooms and manage the disposal of contaminated equipment and materials.

Required Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of the properties of various cleaning substances.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and simple written instructions.
  • Capacity to stand, stoop, bend, and stretch for long periods.
  • Strong attention to detail, dependability, and physical capability to perform light to moderately heavy labor.
  • No formal education or experience requirements; ability to read and understand English.
  • Note: Verifiable part‑time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full‑time experience requirements.
