Job Description

Position Overview

The Employee Relations & HR Manager at the University of Colorado – Denver is a full-time role responsible for providing policy guidance and consultation on a broad range of HR functions. Reporting primarily to the School of Public Affairs leadership, you will serve as the main HR liaison working with CU Denver Human Resources and CU Employee Services to ensure all payroll and personnel matters comply with University, State, and Federal policies. This role supports a vibrant academic environment within a premier urban research university known for innovation, diverse educational programs, and an economic impact of over $800 million.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert HR policy guidance and consultation to deans, supervisors, and faculty to ensure compliance with University rules and regulations.
  • Serve as the primary HR liaison for the School of Public Affairs, coordinating with CU Employee Services and the CU Denver HR department.
  • Manage staff personnel and payroll administration, including recruitment, onboarding, performance evaluations, leave administration, and compensation adjustments.
  • Oversee HR processes such as job postings, employee status updates, and the transition of time reporting systems to maintain efficiency and compliance.
  • Foster an inclusive work environment by partnering with leadership to improve team dynamics, elevate performance, and support cultural competence initiatives.
  • Act as a point of contact for employee grievances and lead initiatives that recognize and reward employee achievements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field (or equivalent combination of education and technical/paraprofessional experience).
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressive human resources experience in a higher education setting.
  • Proven ability to analyze and apply a broad range of HR policies, laws, and regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with proficient computer skills including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in management, human resources, public administration or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of HR experience in higher education, with hands-on experience in policy interpretation and compliance.
  • Experience with CU HR systems such as PeopleSoft HCM and Taleo/CU Careers.
  • Prior experience working closely with faculty and managing complex, diverse personnel issues.
