Job Description
Position Overview
The Fresno County Department of Agriculture invites qualified candidates for the positions of Agricultural/Standards Specialist and Senior Agricultural/Standards Specialist. In these roles, incumbents conduct inspections, enforce state codes and Fresno County ordinances, and disseminate regulatory information to the public, private industry, government agencies, and special interest groups. Compensation: Annual Salaries – Agricultural/Standards Specialist: $63,388 - $80,886; Senior Agricultural/Standards Specialist: $71,188 - $90,870. Scheduled 1% salary increases effective 11/10/25.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect agricultural commodities and enforce provisions of state codes and Fresno County ordinances.
- Advise and disseminate regulatory information to diverse stakeholders.
- Perform environmental protection and pest management activities including pest detection and exclusion.
- Conduct quality and standards inspections of agricultural commodities.
Required Qualifications
- Agricultural/Standards Specialist: Possess a bachelor’s degree in agricultural, biological, chemical, or physical sciences or 30 semester units in related disciplines.
- At least 1 year full-time experience as a Provisional Agricultural/Standards Specialist with the County of Fresno.
- Hold the three required licenses issued by the California Department of Food and Agriculture: Pesticide Regulation, Pest Prevention and Plant Regulation, and Investigation & Environmental Monitoring.
- Possess a valid Class “C” driver’s license (a Class “A” driver’s license may be required).
- Senior Agricultural/Standards Specialist: Meet the same education requirements or equivalent, with a minimum of 3 years full-time experience (including provisional level).
- Hold six valid licenses issued by the California Department of Food and Agriculture – including the three required licenses and three optional licenses (with at least two being Weights and Measures licenses).
Preferred Qualifications
- Possession of a Class “A” driver’s license is preferred.
