Key Responsibilities

  • Design hydraulic structures and other structural engineering projects, including preparing designs and reports for dams, spillways, canals, pump stations, valve houses, and related hydraulic structures.
  • Perform condition assessments and evaluate existing structures to determine their integrity and performance.
  • Prepare or direct the preparation of plans, calculations, and specifications for bidding and construction purposes.
  • Conduct field inspections of project sites to assess existing conditions.
  • Manage construction administration for projects in construction.
  • Review, approve, and apply professional engineering seals to final plans, specifications, and reports.
  • Lead projects as a design or discipline lead and mentor less experienced team members.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and be prepared for some travel.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in civil, structural, or architectural engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of six (6) years of relevant structural engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in any state with the ability to obtain a license in California within six (6) months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience collaborating in a multi-disciplinary project team to deliver construction documents and reports.
  • Expertise in designing and analyzing hydraulic structures.
  • Strong technical writing skills with experience in preparing reports, specifications, and technical memoranda.
  • Proven client and project management experience.
  • Ability to prepare proposals, including developing scopes of work, cost estimates, and project schedules.
  • Knowledge of California Building Code, ASCE 7, ACI 318, ACI 350, and AISC 360.
  • Familiarity with Army Corps of Engineers Engineering Manuals for hydraulic structures and FERC Engineering Guidelines.
  • Experience with seismic evaluations and earthquake resistant designs.
  • Proficiency in structural engineering software, including finite element analysis and CAD programs such as RISA 3D, SAP2000, and AutoCAD.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A Structural Engineer (SE) license is considered an asset.
