Job Description

Position Overview

A stealth, Bay Area–based robotics and AI company is hiring a Principal Electrical Engineer to define and lead the strategy, architecture, and implementation of its core electrical systems and PCBAs for physical‑world intelligent machines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define medium‑ and long‑term strategy for electrical systems and influence adjacent hardware and software disciplines.
  • Make high‑impact architectural decisions on power distribution, sensing, compute, and connectivity within complex robotic or physically actuated platforms.
  • Create and maintain test plans, validation frameworks, and documentation for electrical subsystems, ensuring traceability from requirements to verification.
  • Collaborate closely with robotics, controls, mechanical, and ML teams to integrate electrical designs into tightly coupled, real‑time systems.
  • Mentor other engineers, provide design reviews, and raise the overall technical bar for electrical engineering across the organisation.

Required Qualifications

  • Deep experience (typically 8–12+ years) designing and shipping complex electronic systems, ideally in robotics, automation, or other real‑world mechatronic products.
  • Expert‑level PCBA skills: mixed‑signal design, high‑reliability layout, bring‑up, debugging, and collaboration with manufacturing partners.
  • Strong background setting electrical architecture and standards, not just implementing isolated boards, with a track record of owning systems end‑to‑end.
  • Familiarity with safety, reliability, and compliance expectations for deployed hardware systems, and experience designing processes to meet them.
  • A first‑principles, collaborative working style, with the ability to communicate clearly and drive alignment across a small, high‑calibre team.
