Job Description

Position Overview

Orion Engineering has an immediate opening for junior Structural Engineers in our Tampa, FL office. The junior Structural Engineer will provide structural design engineering support for the construction of marine and heavy civil structures including port facilities, wharves, liquid cargo terminals, container terminals, cruise terminals, bulkheads, docks, piers, or marinas. The selected candidate will work closely with Engineers and the Project Management team to ensure project requirements are met, designs are completed accurately, and deadlines are achieved.

Key Responsibilities

  • Works with the Engineering & Structural Design team to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
  • Collects data and gathers required documents.
  • Performs standard computations and analysis.
  • Prepares drawings and visual aids.
  • Observes construction activities to determine the best design applications.
  • Performs basic survey work as required.
  • Applies prescribed techniques and procedures in accordance with established engineering criteria.
  • Assists Engineer team members to successfully complete design project objectives.
  • Assists in the inspection of existing waterfront structures and designs repairs/upgrades.
  • Maintains personal safety and the safety of co-workers by following all safety protocols.
  • Stops work immediately if unsafe conditions are detected.
  • Complies with all applicable laws, regulations and Company policies and promptly reports any violations.
  • Performs other related administrative and technical duties as assigned.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all proprietary or trade secret information.

Required Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Civil Engineering with a structural or geotechnical track and 0-4 years of work experience.
  • Must have completed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam and hold E.I. certification or E.I.T.
  • Working knowledge of basic structural analysis using concrete and/or steel elements.
  • Willingness and ability to travel, including international travel.
  • Ability to quickly learn technical aspects, effectively communicate, and work well with colleagues at all levels.
  • Highly organized, diligent, self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Adaptability to sudden changes in work priorities with excellent attention to detail.
  • PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Must perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations, properly use required personal protective equipment, remain calm during emergencies, and evacuate promptly if needed.
