Position Overview

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to global enterprises and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, fuels breakthrough initiatives in public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We are hiring an Ubuntu Pro Sales Engineer to help global companies embrace advanced Linux and open source applications. In this role, you will engage in presales activities, solve customer challenges, and work closely with enterprise sales leads within our global Field Engineering team. Most colleagues work from home, and we accommodate talent across EMEA, Americas, and APAC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect customer business requirements and advise them on Ubuntu and relevant open source applications
  • Identify customer challenges with open source and articulate how Ubuntu Pro could help solve them
  • Deliver presentations and demonstrations of Ubuntu Pro to prospective and current clients
  • Liaise with product teams to provide feedback on requirements to influence product roadmap
  • Work collaboratively with your sales team to reach common targets
  • Travel globally up to 25% of the time for internal/external events and customer meetings

Required Qualifications

  • Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
  • Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling alternative narrative
  • Confidence to speak up, exchange feedback, and share ideas respectfully
  • Track record of exceeding expectations to achieve outstanding results
  • Demonstrated interest in continuous learning and development
  • Practical knowledge of Linux, virtualisation, containers, and networking
  • Business-minded technology thinker and problem solver
  • Familiarity with cloud computing concepts and providers such as Kubernetes, AWS, Azure, and GCP
  • Interest in large-scale enterprise open source, including private clouds, machine learning/AI, data, and analytics
  • Intermediate level Python programming skills
  • Passion for technology evidenced by personal projects and initiatives
  • Strong work ethic and the confidence to excel alongside motivated colleagues
  • Excellent presentation skills and professional written/spoken English
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability
  • Ability to adapt, initiate new projects, and interact effectively with diverse teams
  • Result-oriented with a drive to follow up and meet commitments
  • Willingness to travel internationally, including multi-week events and customer meetings
