Job Description
Position Overview
As part of an ambulatory care team, provide patient care and administrative clinical support while ensuring efficient and effective operational flow. Partner with physicians and licensed providers for the delivery of healthcare services.
Compensation: Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan website.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in examination, treatment, and discharge of patients under the direction of a physician.
- Prepare treatment rooms for examination; clean rooms after procedures, clean and disinfect equipment, and restock supplies.
- Assist and accompany patients from the waiting room; prepare patients for examination.
- Interview patients and record/input information into patients' medical record. Collect all medical data to facilitate the physician's ability to draw conclusions about the patient's needs. Ensure all charts and forms for the office visit are ready for the provider.
- Measure, collect, and record patient's vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, oxygen, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and prepare patients for examinations and tests/procedures.
- Perform routine patient testing; collect and process specimen samples (i.e., blood, urine, tissue biopsies, throat cultures, etc.) as applicable to the assigned clinical department.
- Prepare and administer routine medications (oral, rectal, topical, nebulized, intramuscular, or subcutaneous routes) and injections (excluding controlled substances) as directed by the physician. Identify, monitor, and report adverse reactions.
- Remove sutures and staples, change sterile and non-sterile dressings, and perform wound care as requested and as applicable to the assigned clinical department.
- Maintain confidentiality and patient privacy at all times. Verify and ensure patient data is accurately documented within electronic systems and distributed via manual processes.
- Schedule follow-up care (i.e., appointments, referrals, testing) as requested.
- Initiate prior authorizations/pre-certifications as appropriate and counsel patients on process requirements.
- Perform clinical support duties including but not limited to phone triage, filing, front-desk reception, data entry, and/or patient registration as requested.
- Provide temporary cross-coverage to other clinical departments to assist with staffing needs and ensure safe clinical operations as assigned.
- Travel as a member of the multi-disciplinary healthcare team to provide patient care at TTUHSC EP outreach clinics as applicable to the assigned clinical department.
- Remain current with all licensure, certifications, mandatory compliances, and training required for this position.
- Adhere to all TTUHSCEP policies, procedures, and processes.

- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma/GED Equivalent. Must be a graduate of a CAAHEP or ABHES Medical Assisting Program.
- Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary setting; excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.
- Current Medical Assistant Certification required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 6 months experience working as a CMA.
- Familiarity with Joint Commission accreditation and standards desired.
- Experience working in an academic medical/health sciences center desired.
