Job Description

Position Overview

Senior Electrical Engineer
Location: Baltimore, MD
Schedule: Contract/ FTE

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer (EE) with a minimum of 5 years of experience in control cabinet design using AutoCAD Electrical (ACADE). The ideal candidate will be proficient in performing all required engineering calculations, including heat load/loss, Full Load Amperage (FLA), and Short-Circuit Current Rating (SCCR) determinations. Candidates should already possess, or be willing to obtain, UL 508A MTR certification. Knowledge of NEMA and IEC standards is highly desirable and will be considered a strong asset. The Senior Electrical Engineer will participate in New Product Introduction (NPI) project teams, lead hardware design and development for new product controls, contribute to the development of the SMART controls strategy and roadmap, and execute the controls roadmap.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in New Product Introduction (NPI) project teams as the Electrical representative, lead NPI electrical projects, and provide technical support.
  • Translate product requirements and specifications into controls hardware design requirements and design documents that meet functional, quality, and cost targets.
  • Propose and present optimum electrical solutions for each NPI control specification.
  • Design systems to control fan motors, pumps, valves, safety switches, heating elements, sensors, and other features, enabling data communication with customer building management systems and cloud platforms.
  • Develop and execute an electrical system verification and validation plan, serving as the primary interface with UL for testing and certification.
  • Collaborate with product platform teams and controls panel suppliers to create panel drawings, wiring diagrams, bills of material, and system configurators.
  • Work independently with vendors and contractors to evaluate and qualify suppliers and technical proposals to achieve target cost and quality.
  • Lead internal cross-functional team discussions to communicate and agree upon critical electrical technical decisions.
  • Define and document best practice rules for hardware development based on lessons learned from controls projects.
  • Establish testing procedures, define pass criteria, participate in lab testing, and analyze data to optimize product performance.
  • Promote standardization across business functions in hardware development and testing of controls systems.
  • Identify and implement product improvements and cost-out opportunities through NPI or sustaining projects.
  • Independently write electrical-related Engineering Change Notices (ECN) to communicate design and documentation changes.
  • Support field issues to ensure customer expectations are met.
  • Prepare and present electrical-related technical training to all levels of the organization.
  • Propose and present an electrical strategy and implementation plan to Technology/Product Strategy teams.
  • Identify opportunities and implement improvements to increase electrical development velocity and quality.
  • Stay current with regulatory codes and standards such as IEC, NEC, UL, FM, and other relevant electrical standards globally.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience in engineering with technical project management, including a minimum of 5 years in electrical cabinet design.
  • 5+ years of experience in developing electro-mechanical control systems.
  • Proficiency in technical writing, including electrical specification writing, test plan development, and test plan execution.
  • Familiarity with integrated communications via building management system protocols such as BACNet and Modbus.
  • Demonstrated capability with Microsoft Office and the AutoCAD family of products.
  • Previous experience in laboratory testing processes, including instrumentation and measurement techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS degree or PEng certification.
  • UL508A MTR certification.
  • Experience with HVAC control systems.
  • Experience with Agile work management systems (e.g., Jira/DevOps).
