Position Overview

Detroit Salt is a historic organization with a rich legacy spanning over 100 years. Originating in 1906 as a salt producer for leather and food processing, we have evolved into a renowned supplier of rock salt and premium ice melter formulations since 1997. Our operations extend 1,200 feet beneath Detroit across more than 1,500 acres, featuring over 100 miles of underground roads. As a valued member of our team, you will help maintain our efficient mining process, contribute to quality packaging, and reinforce our commitment to the highest safety standards for our staff and community.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the packaging line to ensure smooth operation and achieve set quotas.
• Troubleshoot and maintain the packaging line to ensure safe and consistent production quality.
• Assist, guide, and train packaging department members on equipment operation and quality control.
• Maintain consistent packaging quality prior to product export.
• Understand workflow throughout the bagging facility and adjust techniques based on variables such as color additives, chemical additives, and operating conditions.
• Ensure a clean, safe, and organized work environment by following established procedures.
• Monitor, confront, and repair any issues on the packaging line promptly.
• Meet daily quotas and contribute to a professional team culture.
• Perform additional duties as assigned, including assisting other departments as needed.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum two years of experience in maintaining the operation of a packaging line.
• Proven experience with mechanical and electrical troubleshooting within packaging line operations.
• Experience in using HMI and PLC systems.
• Background in operating pneumatics-actuated packaging machines.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics.
• Familiarity with electrical codes and procedures.
• Experience with robotic operations and maintenance of automated machines, conveyors, and packaging equipment.
• Must be a self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
• Willingness to cover other shifts, weekends, and work overtime as needed.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to wear all proper PPE including steel-toed shoes, a hard hat, and safety glasses.
• Ability to work safely across varying temperatures in both warehouse and outdoor production settings.
• Capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling loads of 50+ lbs, and performing physical tasks such as climbing, crawling, stooping, bending, squatting, and reaching.
• Must pass physical and drug tests.
