Position Overview
This is a full-time Director of Data Engineering & Architecture opportunity based in Los Angeles, CA with a global enterprise investing in building out a modern data platform on Microsoft Azure. The organization is highly established with a global footprint and is undergoing a large-scale transformation to unlock the power of cloud, data, and analytics across its operations. In this role, you will own and define the data engineering and architecture roadmap while leading a team responsible for delivering scalable, reusable, and trusted data solutions and driving data governance standards across the enterprise.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and define the overall data engineering & architecture roadmap
- Lead a team in delivering scalable, reusable, and trusted data solutions
- Build a cutting-edge Azure ecosystem including Data Lake, Synapse, SQL Database, Data Factory, and Databricks
- Drive and implement enterprise-wide data governance frameworks and practices
- Collaborate cross-functionally with stakeholders to ensure the success of data initiatives
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years of experience in data and analytics, with at least 10+ years in leading data engineering or architecture initiatives
- Proven leadership experience managing data engineering and architecture teams
- Strong expertise in cloud-native architectures with Microsoft Azure (Data Lake, Synapse, SQL Database, Data Factory, Databricks)
- Hands-on experience with building enterprise data pipelines, data lakes, and data warehouses
- Experience implementing data governance frameworks (data quality, metadata, lineage, security)
- Strong knowledge of modern data architecture, data modeling, and data management practices
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related discipline
- Familiarity with third-party data sources (financial, ESG, market, or alternative data is a plus)
- Experience working in large, complex organizations with cross-functional stakeholders
- Exposure to machine learning platforms (Azure ML or similar)
- Solid foundation in system design, distributed computing, and modern ETL/ELT practices
