Position Overview
We are considering candidates who could work at any of our Plant or Terminal Locations in our Midwest Region: Lacrosse, WI; Red Rock, MN; Minneapolis, MN; St. Paul, MN; St. Louis, MO; Hannibal, MO; Davenport, IA; West Des Moines, IA; or Cedar Rapids, IA.
Compensation: Pay is dependent upon experience and will be discussed during the consideration process.
The Technical Service Engineer provides technical assistance to customers by bridging the gap between plant production, quality teams, and sales teams within the Cement Segment. This role assists clients with cement, cementitious, concrete, and mortar issues and involves travel to meet with customers, attend business unit and district meetings, and represent the company at industry events.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide proactive consultation to cement commercial group customers on product performance, best practices, technical research, troubleshooting, and technical training.
- Act as liaison between sales and production on plant quality teams.
- Understand technical aspects of customer products, systems, and applications.
- Coordinate and facilitate competitive analyses for establishing and reviewing internal quality objectives.
- Deliver internal technical training and education to the cement commercial sales force and industry personnel.
- Participate in technical organizations such as the American Concrete Institute (ACI), ASTM, and local/regional industry groups.
- Collaborate with the Sales team on promotion efforts for cement-based and related products.
- Provide technical assistance to cement accounts with concrete-related issues.
- Assist in resolving customer product issues while maintaining accurate internal records.
- Serve as a technical liaison with Regional Technical Directors, Concrete Labs, Sales, and Manufacturing facilities.
- Monitor and report on internal product performance versus competitive products.
- Support plant and terminal internal audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participate in addressing long-term product development and quality issues.
- Engage with architects, engineers, and specifying agencies to promote and specify company products.
- Develop and maintain relationships with DOTs and other specifiers.
- Provide regular correspondence regarding product performance and customer results.
- Identify and incorporate service and product improvement opportunities.
- Oversee the concrete testing program and manage sample policies.
- Rapidly communicate product changes to Sales and Marketing teams.
- Leverage deep customer insights to deliver innovative solutions.
- Continuously enhance market and industry knowledge.
Required Qualifications
- 5-10 years of experience in the construction industry, ideally with cement or concrete materials.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Quality Assurance/Quality Control Manager, Technical Services Engineer, or Certified Concrete Technologist in building materials.
- Strong technical knowledge of concrete and other building materials and a clear understanding of industry standards and codes.
- Proven incident and problem-solving skills with an emphasis on timely resolution.
- Excellent project management, analytical, and detail-oriented skills.
- Ability to follow established processes, multitask, and prioritize multiple projects.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and resolve conflicts.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to travel on short notice (approximately 40%).
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (General).
