Position Overview
At Saltchuk, a family of diversified transportation and distribution companies, we connect and empower communities through essential freight transportation, marine services, and energy distribution networks. In this role, you will report to the Internal Audit Manager and work closely with the Sr. Director, Internal Audit to support the annual internal audit program. Your responsibilities include documenting processes, testing controls, analyzing data, and communicating actionable insights to management across financial, IT, safety, and operational audits.
Key Responsibilities
- Support multiple, simultaneous risk-based audits for the company’s six primary business units and corporate office.
- Collaborate with the team and work independently as needed, communicating progress clearly.
- Participate in audit planning; complete fieldwork, work papers, and reporting for integrated audit engagements.
- Document financial and operational processes, perform walkthroughs, and execute audit test plans to evaluate control effectiveness.
- Collect and analyze evidentiary data to form objective opinions on efficiency and effectiveness.
- Assess business, technology, and operational risks along with related controls.
- Review written procedures, perform process walk-throughs, and test documentation to evaluate existing internal controls.
- Summarize observations and work with business leaders to develop practical and meaningful action items.
- Assist in preparing audit reports that highlight significant results and potential impacts.
- Adhere to ethical standards and Saltchuk’s Code of Ethics, following The IIA's principles of integrity, objectivity, confidentiality, and competency.
- Travel up to 30% to operations in various regions including Alaska, Florida, Hawaii, California, PNW, or the Caribbean.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years’ experience with a public accounting firm, internal audit department, or a similar corporate role.
- Proficient in advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word within a Windows environment.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, planning, organizing, and decision-making skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently on multiple assignments under deadline pressure.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications (CPA, CIA, CFE, CFA, CMA, etc.) are a plus.

- Compensation: Competitive base annual salary range: $70,000 – $87,000, with eligibility for an annual target bonus of 20% and total cash compensation ranging from $84,000 – $104,400.
