Position Overview
The Mercatus Center at George Mason University is seeking a Social and Digital Marketing Associate to build and shape the social media presence of its new Econ Nerds brand. In this role you will launch a dynamic social presence from scratch—defining the brand’s voice, establishing posting schedules, and driving engagement with original content—while working closely with a small, energetic team. This position offers the flexibility of a fully remote role while providing access to office space in Arlington, VA if desired.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and launch a social media presence for Econ Nerds by determining the optimal mix of platforms, defining a unique voice, and establishing effective posting schedules.
- Promote videos and podcasts by creating original posts and engaging content that builds a large, active audience.
- Interact with the social audience, collaborate with designers for creative art, and produce social-friendly clips from video content.
- Promote new MRU content such as videos, interactives, and teacher training modules.
- Evaluate and refine the MRU social strategy by reporting on performance using native analytics and adopting a test-and-learn approach.
- Manage digital advertising for both Econ Nerds and MRU across social and other platforms.
Required Qualifications
- College-level (or higher) writing skills in American English with the ability to craft engaging, humorous, and pithy social posts.
- Expert and active user of multiple social platforms (e.g., X, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram).
- At least 2 years of experience managing corporate or high-profile personal social media accounts.
- Minimum 2 years of experience managing digital ads on social or other platforms.
- Strong understanding of economics, particularly the approaches common on MarginalRevolution.com.
- Demonstrated success in a remote work environment preferred.
