Position Overview

This opportunity involves assisting in the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans, and specifications for assigned projects. You will perform research, development, calculations, design, and delivery in partnership with the project team; applying advanced engineering techniques, procedures, and design criteria for projects of varying size and complexity.

Joining our Michigan office as a New Grad Engineer I starting Summer 2026, you will contribute to the successful delivery of diverse projects for HNTB’s clients.

Locations: Detroit, MI; East Lansing, MI (Lansing)

Key Responsibilities

  • Completes assigned work within the schedule and designated hours.
  • Supports the preparation and modification of project reports, plans, designs, and calculations.
  • Assists in the preparation of project quantity and cost estimates.
  • Provides organizational and administrative support to engineering teams by maintaining design files.
  • Assists with research, data collection, field investigations, development, and design tasks as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Exhibits an understanding of engineering principles relevant to the discipline
  • Familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite and experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD or similar software

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Engineering
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
  • Advanced knowledge of MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
