Job Description

Position Overview

LS Power, founded in 1990, is a premier development, investment, and operating company focused on the North American power and energy infrastructure sector. With over 50,000 MW of power generation and extensive transmission projects, we are committed to building a cleaner and more reliable energy ecosystem. In this role, you will support various acquisition and divestiture efforts through asset market and trading activities, including market analysis, hedging strategy development, and risk management initiatives.

Compensation

The salary for this role is $100,000 - $125,000. This range applies to positions performed in New York and may be subject to adjustments based on factors including experience and market conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform market analysis to identify short and long term trading opportunities across commodities including power, FTRs, emissions, RECs, natural gas, oil, coal, natural gas basis, and power basis.
  • Oversee third parties managing day-to-day commercial strategies for generating facilities, including bidding, fuel procurement, and outage coordination.
  • Utilize both fundamental and technical analysis to research market dynamics and assess trade and hedge positions.
  • Monitor market, industry, product, and pricing trends to inform strategic decisions.
  • Assist with structuring and negotiating documentation to execute trades.
  • Provide asset valuation support for acquisition and development activities.
  • Support acquisition efforts by assessing and underwriting revenue streams for target power generation facilities.
  • Collaborate with the acquisition and development team to evaluate strategic hedging alternatives.
  • Develop power generation hedging strategies across market regions to maximize profitability and minimize margin volatility, focusing on gross margin value streams such as power, ancillaries, and capacity.
  • Formulate risk management and trading strategies while ensuring compliance with strategic objectives and existing risk controls.
  • Apply statistical and econometric analysis to raw Power and Gas data sets to derive robust, predictive insights.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Minimum of three years of trading, structuring, and/or analytical support experience within the power industry.
  • Strong analytical, modeling, and fundamental research skills, including experience with programming languages for code writing, reading, and editing.
  • Working knowledge of trade capture and programming systems.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision and strong follow-through.
