Job Description

Position Overview

Our client is a 30+ year old 3PL with over 10 locations and 5 million sq. feet of warehousing space across the United States, specializing in B2B and D2C services for retail, apparel, furniture, and home goods. The Operations Manager, based in Ontario, California, is responsible for the facility’s overall operational performance by leading both exempt and non-exempt associates to ensure orders are selected accurately and packed/shipped without damage for timely delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operations Management:
    • Ensures operational procedures for incoming and outgoing shipments, proper handling and disposition of products, and maintains high standards of inventory accuracy.
    • Develops and manages a comprehensive facility strategy by shaping requirements, assessing deliverables, and utilizing resources to eliminate process problems.
    • Plans long-term labor needs based on sales, forecasts, and historical data.
    • Conducts analysis of workload in relation to labor hours and equipment.
    • Manages between 5-8 dedicated customers or public accounts within the warehouse.
    • Oversees facilities ranging from 200,000 to 500,000 square feet and up to 100 employees during non-peak times.
    • Collaborates with teams from other facilities to share knowledge and solve problems.
  • Financials:
    • Responsible for facility P&L management and budget preparation.
    • Audits all billing activities for accuracy and authorizes purchase order requisitions, vouchers, and customer billing.
    • Ensures proper allocation of labor costs to achieve accurate productivity factoring.
    • Reports on the location’s financial and operational performance.
    • Conducts monthly reviews of accounts receivable aging and works with corporate teams to recover balances promptly.
    • Conducts annual reviews of customer contracts, recommending increases to leadership.
    • Drives continuous improvements to safety, quality, cost, and delivery while expanding warehouse capabilities.
  • Employee Relations/Development:
    • Ensures daily pre-shift meetings cover previous productivity, operational issues, and workload forecasting.
    • Oversees proper staffing and supports the hiring process for facility operations.
    • Ensures new employees are properly onboarded with required documentation and training schedules.
    • Communicates department and individual performance goals to drive operational success.
    • Participates in relevant departmental and company meetings.
    • Plays an active role in employee development and talent selection.
    • Provides regular coaching and feedback, prepares formal performance appraisals, and approves annual compensation increases.
  • Safety and Security:
    • Implements safety and sanitation schedules to ensure compliance with corporate, OSHA, FDA, AIB, or ASI standards.
    • Coordinates alarm-monitoring systems and reviews sprinkler system testing.
    • Maintains a safe, clean, and efficient facility to meet service standards.
    • Actively supports and participates in safety initiatives.
    • Oversees accident investigations, conducts root cause analyses, and implements corrective actions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • 7+ years of supervisory experience in a warehouse or distribution environment.
  • Experience with Warehouse Management Systems.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, DOT, HAZMAT, and FDA regulations with the willingness to obtain certification as needed.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with or a desire to learn performance metrics, process improvement, and Lean/Six Sigma tools.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
