ABOUT THE ROLE: The plant designer provides state-of-the-art designs for existing and future operating plants during definition, planning, and execution phases of CAPEX projects for Cement, Waste Management, Power, Logistic, Aggregate and Ready Mix. You will design projects safely, on time, at lowest costs and with great quality. You will work closely with Engineering Managers and Discipline Engineers to develop the necessary drawings and documents that define project scope. The Plant Designer is responsible for elaborating and visualizing technically functional plant solutions that are safe, maintenance and operation friendly, and cost effective. Execution of design work shall be carried out in a timely and cost-effective manner, complying with all safety and technical guidelines, standards, and methods.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving, and adhering to safety policies in all work environments.
  • Elaborate and develop, for all types of projects (greenfield, brownfield, debottlenecking, etc.) within PM&E scope and all project phases, the necessary documents and drawings for basic engineering and tendering, including:
    Mass flow diagram, plot plan and general layout, flow sheets/flow charts of proposed solutions, general arrangement drawings with dimensions, equipment list, building schedule, plant section layout, single line diagram, and 2D/3D modeling (Navis Works, Revit, ACAD tools, etc.). Also, maintain and extend the plant design database.
  • Reinforce the use of common language and coordinate the dissemination of manufacturing educational resources to facilitate shared learning and good practices.
  • Perform plant visits and surveys to identify interactions or interferences with existing equipment.
  • Integrate investment cost reduction guidelines when developing plot plans, general layouts, and plant section arrangements.
  • Apply safety in design methods and principles while ensuring compliance with country-specific standards, including defining appropriate equipment.
  • Develop and optimize design solutions in collaboration with Group project stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Be directly accountable for cost commitments and for delivering projects on time and within budget, serving as a liaison between suppliers and the engineering group for effective design and plant optimization.
  • Demonstrate commitment to health, safety, and environmental policies, promoting a culture of safety.
  • Work directly with market area Operations Managers, Project Engineers, and Plant Managers.
  • Coordinate with other Performance Specialists (Best Practices and Innovation) and functional groups (Safety, Land, and Environment).

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree
  • Experience Required: 3-5 years
  • Qualifications: Good knowledge of current engineering design standards and tools specific to the cement industry; ability to read mass flow diagrams and flow sheets, basic design principles and calculations; familiarity with material handling, logistic equipment, and industrial cement plant facility design (approximately 5 years’ design experience); experience in cement manufacturing (operations, maintenance, design, new works, or large plant projects); basic project management; proficient in 2D/3D CAD (Navis Works, Revit, etc.), MS Office, and Engineering Base; and familiarity with BIM design methodology.
  • Requirements: Strong technical background, disciplined and process-oriented mindset, excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, effective people management and influence skills, strong work ethic, action oriented, with solid business acumen, integrity, trust, organizational agility, and process management capabilities.
  • Schedule: Travel requirement of 30%
