Job Description
Position Overview
1024 Central Plant Engineer PT by Employment Services Team – This role is responsible for monitoring and maintaining critical facility systems including building management, fuel‐powered boilers, cooling systems, and emergency diesel generators to ensure safe and efficient operations. Candidates must respond quickly in emergencies and work effectively within a hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor facilities/building management systems and computer based systems including the PEVCO PT3000 Pneumatic Tube System, Johnson Control Facility Management System, medical gas pipeline distribution, elevator diagnostic system, and fire alarm system; dispatch repair or maintenance personnel as needed.
- Start, operate, monitor, adjust, and perform skilled operational repairs on fuel‐powered boilers fired by #2 diesel and natural gas while evaluating the quality and chemical balance of feed water, boiler water, steam, and condensates.
- Control cooling systems, conduct complex chemical testing including titration techniques, and monitor electric/electronic controls for compressors, chillers, cooling towers, and auxiliary equipment.
- Prepare computer-generated trending reports and maintain detailed logs for review by the Facilities Manager.
- Perform visual inspections and operate diesel generators during power outages to ensure readiness and safety.
Required Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of high-pressure boiler operations, cooling systems, building management systems, and associated equipment.
- Ability to operate, adjust, and troubleshoot computer-based automated control systems and respond quickly in emergency facility malfunctions.
- Demonstrated skill in preparing technical reports and maintaining detailed logs.
- Physical capability to perform tasks requiring frequent movement, occasional heavy lifting (5–30 lbs and 30–70 lbs), climbing ladders, and working under variable environmental conditions.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain working relationships in a hospital setting.
