Job Description

Position Overview

Engineer II (Big Data Engineering) at Magnite – the world’s largest independent sell‐side advertising platform – offers you the opportunity to work on high‐performance big data solutions powering billions of transactions per day. As a member of the DV+ Data Engineering team, you will design, develop and support innovative big data platforms that process hundreds of billions of events, ensuring accuracy and speed. You will tackle real-world challenges by developing end-to-end data services and troubleshooting production operations. Compensation: In California, the base salary range is $125,000 - $135,000 plus an annual variable bonus and company equity; in Colorado, it is $115,000 - $125,000 plus similar variable benefits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and support diverse big data platform applications including Hadoop, Kafka, ETL, and data warehouse integration.
  • Develop applications using Java, Spark, and scripting languages (Python, Shell) to support execution.
  • Implement full-cycle data services from data ingestion and processing to ETL and reporting.
  • Conduct data analysis and troubleshooting to support day-to-day production operations.
  • Proactively identify and resolve production data and performance issues.

Required Qualifications

  • Proficiency in data engineering technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, and Druid.
  • Experience with Java and scripting languages (e.g., UNIX Shell, Perl, Python).
  • Familiarity with process, infrastructure, and application management tools (JIRA, Jenkins, GitHub).
  • Understanding of standard development practices, computer architecture, data structures, and programming principles.
  • Experience in testing, debugging, data quality assurance, and performance tuning.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in the ad-tech industry.
  • Exposure to Massively Parallel Processing architectures.
  • Experience with MapR Hadoop.
  • Familiarity with SQL for data transformation, custom reporting, and analysis.
