Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

  • Retrieve discharged medical records from various departments and reconcile them to ensure complete accounting.
  • Facilitate the retrieval, printing, storage, archival, and record retention of medical records, including non-scannable Alternate Media (e.g., fetal monitor strips).
  • Assist with the physician suspension process by evaluating cases, preparing recommendation lists, sending notice letters, and making reminder calls.
  • Prepare medical records and loose documents for scanning; perform scanning and indexing of medical record documentation.
  • Conduct paper-to-PC quality control validation to ensure all documents are accurately scanned.
  • Complete any required certification programs and continuing education to accurately perform duties as defined by state guidelines.
  • Interact with parents to collect and document birth information, deliver appropriate forms, and provide guidance on form completion.
  • Assist parents in completing the Acknowledgment of Paternity form, requiring patience, diplomacy, and sensitivity.
  • Review patient medical records and other resources to obtain required birth information.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED (preferred)
  • Experience in a hospital or medical office setting, particularly with patient health information, medical records document imaging, or medical records handling, is strongly preferred.
  • Completion of a state certification program may be required; training and course fees will be provided.
