Whiting-Turner Entry-Level Engineers are team members who help manage all aspects of construction projects. Reporting to a Project Manager and/or a Superintendent, their major duties include coordinating work with project owner representatives, architects, engineers, inspectors, and site subcontractors, managing estimating and bidding processes, resolving design issues, identifying and resolving field issues and change orders, drafting contracts and purchase orders, coordinating meetings, ensuring quality and safety compliance, implementing and tracking project schedules, documenting technical and financial aspects, reviewing project drawings and trade progress, and providing field support to ensure contract compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate work with project owner representatives, architects, engineers, inspectors, and site subcontractors or direct the work of all trades on-site.
- Manage estimating and bidding processes while tracking costs to maintain the project budget.
- Resolve and clarify design issues and field-related challenges including change orders.
- Write contracts and purchase orders with company boilerplate language to document work, schedules, costs, change orders, and technical specifications.
- Participate in meetings to coordinate work, manage labor concerns, and ensure quality standards and contract compliance.
- Implement project schedules, track milestones, and document technical, financial, and personnel aspects of each project phase.
Required Qualifications
- General knowledge of safety regulations, ANSI standards, local and state building codes, environmental codes, and industry-specific guidelines.
- Understanding of general construction processes, practices, and work sites.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Suretrak, Primavera (or other scheduling software).
- Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or Construction Technology.
- Knowledge of engineering principles and basic business principles sufficient to project and monitor expenses.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel.
- Ability to read and understand technical specifications, blueprints, technical manuals, installation instructions, and engineering/architectural drawings.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with construction projects involving mechanical/electrical systems, building materials, or working with craft workers.
