Position Overview

This role in mechanical engineering focuses on water resource projects—including power, water, wastewater, and light industrial projects. Working under the direction of senior engineers on multidisciplinary projects, you will be involved in new development, modernization, and rehabilitation of hydro-mechanical equipment for hydropower and other water resource projects. Occasional travel is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct interpretations of drawings, codes, and technical materials.
- Perform mechanical design using relevant software programs.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines under the direction of a senior engineer/designer.
- Perform field work as directed by senior staff.
- Analyze and design individual mechanical system components using company and manufacturer software.
- Collect data to support design decisions.
- Conduct planning studies, detailed analyses, designs, and construction services for hydro-mechanical equipment at hydroelectric power plants.
- Prepare technical specifications for the procurement, design, and installation of turbine-generators and auxiliary systems.
- Review vendor drawings, calculations, procedures, and reports.
- Provide site support for equipment commissioning and testing.
- Perform risk assessments and life cycle costing for equipment replacement, repair, and rehabilitation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-7 years of relevant experience.
- Understanding of drafting/design tools such as AutoCAD.
- Ability to lead, participate, and collaborate in project teams.
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, and technical data.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience in powerhouse equipment design, commissioning, and testing including turbines, governing systems, and ancillary equipment.
- Knowledge of power plant health and safety requirements and PPE.
- Experience with risk assessment and life cycle costing of mechanical equipment.
- Willingness to work in variable field conditions and travel 10% - 20% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree and PE certification are preferred.
- Experience working with FEA, CFD, and 3D modeling programs.
- Experience with manufacturing methods, non-destructive examinations, and shop inspections.
- Hydro engineering experience with hydroelectric power plants and water control structures (dams, spillways, intakes, outlets).
- Experience in turbine-generator and valve equipment design including related mechanical calculations.
- Hydro rehabilitation experience and support in planning reports and proposals.

Compensation
Min Salary $82,600.00 - Max Salary $119,800.00
Pay ranges are based on factors such as education, qualifications, experience, and work location. Certain roles are bonus eligible, and part-time compensation is pro-rated.
