Job Description

Position Overview

Join Sargent & Lundy's Nuclear Power Group and be part of a team driving the future of clean, carbon‑free energy. In this role, you will apply your advanced knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and power plant engineering to support client projects, perform system engineering tasks, and collaborate with fellow Mechanical Engineers. The target start date for this position is summer 2026.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply your expertise in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and power plant engineering to client projects.
  • Prepare calculations, specifications, and technical reports to support client recommendations and reviews.
  • Conduct equipment sizing, optimization evaluation, and selection in response to project needs.
  • Collaborate with project teams and other Mechanical Engineers on the design, modification, and analysis of power plant mechanical systems.
  • Travel to client and vendor offices as well as construction sites for design reviews and field verification of designs.

Required Qualifications

  • Must have a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering with a strong academic background in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, power engineering, turbomachinery, thermal systems, and energy conversion.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applying mechanical engineering principles, techniques, and equipment to project design and execution.
  • Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and principles used in the production of technical plans, fabrication drawings, and models.
  • Strong analytical skills with a keen interest in numerical computations and problem solving.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications along with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Applicants must have valid work authorization in the U.S. as sponsorship is not available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission‑approved program.
  • Related engineering internship or co‑op work experience.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and designation as an Engineer in Training.
  • Experience in preparing and providing support documentation for Mechanical Engineering calculations.
  • Relevant coursework in power engineering, turbomachinery, thermal systems, and energy conversion.
