Position Overview

As a work from home Inpatient Coding Specialist, you will review and evaluate hospital inpatient medical record documentation to assign, sequence, edit, and validate the appropriate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes. Key Responsibilities
- Assign, sequence, validate, and/or edit codes/DRGs and related abstracted data for inpatient records using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS.
- Ensure accurate diagnosis description with appropriate 3-7 digit code assignments and corresponding Present On Admission (POA) indicators.
- Assign procedure descriptions with appropriate 7-digit ICD-10-PCS codes, including date and surgeon details.
- Record admitting diagnoses and discharge dispositions appropriately.
- Complete the coding portion of the IRF-PAI when applicable.
- Maintain or exceed established accuracy and productivity standards.
- Utilize complete patient medical record documentation for code/DRG assignment, validation, and editing.
- Initiate, review, and/or edit physician queries in compliance with Company and HSC policies.
- Perform Coding Account Resolution Specialist III (CARS III) duties as needed.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of acute care hospital inpatient coding experience required.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Health Information Management/Technology is preferred.
- RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certification is strongly preferred.
