Position Overview
Compensation Range (Southern California Only): Salary Range: $72,390.00 - $80,010.00; Anticipated Cost of Living Adjustment: $19,200.00 (COLA); Total Compensation Range: $91,590.00 - $99,210.00.
The Quality Control Engineer (QCE) is responsible for performing quality control tasks as defined in the project quality control plan. This safety sensitive position requires exercising sound judgment in recommending and implementing quality control policies across both field and office environments. Hensel Phelps, founded in 1937 and a leader in construction and development across diverse markets, supports this role. Please note that all employment offers are contingent upon successful verification of work authorization, substance abuse screening, physical exam (if applicable), and background checks for badging and security clearances.
Key Responsibilities
- Interface directly with the owner’s quality assurance team on all quality-related issues.
- Comprehend and apply project specifications, standards, and code requirements across disciplines.
- Participate in submittal reviews, weekly quality control meetings, and preparatory meetings.
- Perform initial and follow-up inspections and manage the punch list process to ensure compliance with project specifications and applicable codes.
- Maintain detailed records of inspections, tests performed, and significant findings; initiate deficiency reports and monitor their resolution.
- Collaborate with trade partner quality control personnel to review QC logs and ensure corrective actions are executed when required.
- Assist with the coordination and scheduling of third-party testing and source inspections, interfacing with testing agencies as necessary.
Required Qualifications
- A 4-year degree in civil or structural engineering, architecture, or construction management.
- Minimum of 1–2 years’ experience on large commercial construction projects.
- A valid Driver’s License.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Prolog, Primavera, and AutoCAD.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with excellent follow-up skills both internally and externally.
- Capacity to work under pressure in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong understanding of federal, state, and local reporting requirements and regulations.
