Job Description

Position Overview

At Leidos, we deliver innovative solutions through the efforts of our diverse and talented people. Leidos’ Defense Systems Space Sensing is seeking an Engineering Technologist to join a small team focused on providing responsive, cost-effective InfraRed (IR) Payloads hosted on satellites in earth orbit. In this role, you will perform system integration activities—including early phase manufacturing of Engineering Development Units (EDUs), subsystem integration and troubleshooting, testing, adherence to manufacturing processes, and equipment assembly. The ideal candidate is skilled in construction, assembly, fabrication, and testing of electrical, electronic, and mechanical prototypes and products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct tests and document results in accordance with an approved test plan
  • Prepare parts lists and validate them
  • Collaborate with senior engineering technicians, assemblers/fabricators, mechanical designers, and technical writers, taking direction from Software or Systems Engineers
  • Independently perform tests following an approved test plan
  • Apply knowledge of product design, assembly, tooling, and composite materials to develop or improve manufacturing processes
  • Complete all necessary planning paperwork throughout the production process
  • Monitor inventories and supplies to ensure proper usage
  • Lead and communicate requirements to contractor technicians and associated teams
  • Be available to work second or third shift as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Two (2) years’ experience in construction, assembly, fabrication, and testing of electrical, electronic, and mechanical prototypes and products
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, GD&T specifications, and 3-D solid models
  • High School Diploma
  • Certification in A+ or Net+ is required; in lieu of certification, an additional three (3) years of relevant experience is required
  • Self-motivated problem solver

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with test automation
  • Experience building and testing electro-optical or other complex multi-disciplinary systems
  • Previous experience with thermal chambers, vibration tables, vacuum chambers, or anechoic chambers
  • Understanding and experience with EMI/EMC testing per MIL Standard 461 and 464
  • Experience in a rapid development manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated experience working in small engineering teams
  • Current and active DoD Secret clearance
