Job Description
Position Overview
High School Special Education Teacher at Missouri Digital Academy (MODA) is a state-certified, online educator position focused on providing individualized instruction to students with special needs. At a K12-powered virtual high school, you will deliver tailored lessons, manage the learning process, and work closely with families, learning coaches, and support staff to ensure each student’s IEP goals are met. Location: US - MO - Remote; US - MO - St Louis; United States. Schedule: Full-time, typically 40+ hours per week (9-5 or 8-4) with the ability to work independently from a professional home office.
Key Responsibilities
- Communicate with parents and related service staff to ensure that students with special needs receive appropriate therapies.
- Develop compliant IEPs, progress reports, and other state-specific required documentation.
- Facilitate and lead collaborative special education meetings, including annual IEP meetings.
- Utilize available resources to provide accommodations and modifications, including assistive technology and supplemental curriculum.
- Modify Stride K12 lessons and assessments as specified by the IEP.
- Ensure successful inclusion of students in the general education classroom.
- Collect and analyze data and work samples to monitor progress toward IEP goals.
- Document all communications with parents and interventions with students.
- Prescribe remediation and enrichment based on student data analysis.
- Deliver rich synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences.
- Maintain and update grade books, make placement and promotion decisions, and alert administrators to student performance concerns.
- Prepare students for high stakes standardized testing.
- Establish positive rapport with families and ensure timely communication with students and learning coaches.
- Support learning coaches/parents with curricular, instructional issues, and troubleshooting in a virtual classroom.
- Travel up to 20% of the time for professional development, student testing, or other required school events.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree.
- Requirements: Active state teaching license (Missouri Special Education Teaching Certification Required) and ability to clear a background check; Must reside in Missouri.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers to interpret student data and drive instructional decisions.
- Receptive to coaching and able to embrace change to ensure excellent student outcomes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint with the ability to rapidly learn new technologies and teaching platforms.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience Required: 0-1 year of related professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with the proposed age group.
- Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology.
- Experience teaching online (virtual) and/or in a brick-and-mortar environment.
- Experience with online learning platforms.

- Compensation: Salary range is anticipated to be around $52,000 with eligibility for a bonus based on education, experience, and local market conditions.
