Position Overview

Rolls-Royce’s Naval Gas Turbine Modules group is seeking a System Design and Integration Engineer to join their team in Indianapolis, IN on a fulltime hybrid basis. In this role you will be responsible for problem resolution, defining requirements; designing and integrating products, systems & product systems; performing technical analysis; and verifying products, systems, and components throughout the product lifecycle. You will contribute to the design and delivery of complex power generation and propulsion modules for key U.S. Navy platforms while engaging in hands-on shipboard experiences and technical support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake system detailed design and development through gated reviews, evaluate compliance to customer requirements, support configuration management, and assist in factory and shipboard installation, commissioning, and acceptance testing.
  • Support engineering analyses, develop technical specifications, select key system components, and create 3D/2D, structural, piping, and assembly drawings.
  • Provide technical inputs for logistics analyses, develop technical support documentation, and assist customers, suppliers, and field service personnel with engineering support.
  • Manage configuration and change control for components, subsystems, and systems, including design documentation and deliverables, and prepare standardization documentation.
  • Evaluate and resolve design/manufacturing/test conflicts, handling activities such as root cause investigations, problem reporting, and quality alerts.
  • Serve as a trusted voice for key customers on various technical topics.

Required Qualifications

  • An Associate's degree in Engineering with 4+ years experience OR a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 2+ years experience OR a Masters degree (or JD/PhD) in Engineering.
  • Self-motivated and confident with strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, as well as outstanding organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail and solid problem-solving skills.
  • Capable of communicating complex technical concepts through high-impact presentations and verbal briefings for diverse audiences.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, with comfort working in industrial, shipyard, or shipboard environments.
  • Experience with modeling software such as NX, including setting test requirements and post-processing data.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Analytical ability to address challenging engineering problems and determine root causes with appropriate corrective actions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team environment, with a proactive approach to accepting responsibility and taking initiative.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate tasks with other groups to ensure timely completion of assignments.
  • Experience in gas turbine, industrial, or marine machinery accessory systems (e.g., fuel, lubrication, fire suppression, cooling water, ventilation, electrical, and control systems).
  • Experience with requirements management and executing system-level validation and verification activities, including reviewing test plans and procedures in customer facing roles.
