Job Description
Position Overview
Responsibilities include the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for patients and their families in a safe environment. This role functions as a Competent Nurse (Benner, Novice to Expert Nursing Theory) and is accountable for effective leadership and direction of the nursing care team to ensure patient comfort, safety, and personal care. The incumbent must be able to perform in all patient care and operational areas (subject to reasonable accommodations) and adhere to all mandatory safety devices and procedures, including participation in the Respiratory Protection Program (which may require a clean-shaven face). This is a union position. Salary Range: $57.52-$73.54 hourly.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized care plans.
- Administer medications, monitor patient responses, and provide ongoing patient education.
- Utilize complex equipment safely and troubleshoot issues as needed.
- Lead and coordinate nursing staff, ensuring effective communication and teamwork.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain rigorous documentation standards.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Must hold the required education to qualify for a Registered Nurse License. (B.S.N. is preferred.)
- Experience: Clinical experience sufficient to pass required competencies and, to qualify as an RN II, a minimum of 6 months acute care experience within the last two years.
- Licenses/Certificates: Current California Registered Nurse License, Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certifications are required.
- For the Emergency Department: A current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certificate through the American Heart Association is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Unit specific experience is preferred but not required.
