Job Description

Position Overview

Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, a global leader providing access to a wide range of services—from brokerage and investment advisory to financial and wealth planning—is seeking a Financial Planning Director. In this role, you will work directly with Financial Advisors in a local office to deliver holistic, in‐depth financial planning advice and analysis using your CFP or CPWA designation and industry expertise. You will help clients clarify their long-term objectives while building a personally and financially rewarding career.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete proprietary training in wealth planning disciplines, investment strategies, and product suitability.
  • Demonstrate expertise in cash flow analysis, investment strategy, retirement planning, income protection, asset protection, and tax strategies.
  • Collaborate with the local management team to prioritize financial planning engagements.
  • Assist Financial Advisors in articulating client financial goals within the context of their investment strategy.
  • Facilitate business growth by driving client loyalty and incorporating sophisticated solutions with other specialists.
  • Drive a goals-based wealth management strategy and deliver exemplary financial guidance, including recommending suitable investments and strategies.
  • Remain current with all CFP and/or CPWA continuing education requirements.
  • Comply with all regulatory requirements, including licensing and registrations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of professional experience in business development, management, sales, legal, accounting, education, military, finance, or a related field.
  • Current holder of the CFP and/or CPWA designations.
  • Possession of Series 7 and 66 licenses.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, time-management, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to listen to client needs and construct tailored financial solutions.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. without durational restrictions.
  • Successful completion of background check and pre-employment assessments.
  • Knowledge of Money Guide Pro is preferred but not required.
  • Willingness to work from the Chicago, IL location.

  • Salary Range: $140,000 - $200,000 per year, plus the potential for an annual discretionary incentive compensation award and bonus.
