Position Overview

Spectrum Networks is hiring a Data Scientist for Spectrum News 1 in El Segundo, CA. This role is focused on developing data‐driven solutions by leveraging analytical, statistical, and programming skills to clean, aggregate, and analyze large data sets. The successful candidate will also be responsible for communicating insights effectively to both technical and business stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop data‐driven solutions to address business problems.
  • Utilize analytical, statistical, and programming skills to clean, aggregate, and analyze large data sets.
  • Participate in the complete analytics lifecycle (requirements gathering, problem formulation, data grooming, exploration, model prototyping, validation, and productionalization).
  • Leverage knowledge of statistical techniques and machine learning algorithms to generate actionable insights for stakeholders.
  • Design and implement statistical data quality procedures for new and existing data sources.
  • Communicate complex data science solutions and results in a clear and effective manner.
  • Establish links across data sources and uncover new data correlations.
  • Ensure testing and validation are integral to all analytics solutions.
  • Achieve project goals within deadlines and proactively communicate status and potential issues.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with strong relationship management and customer service focus.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with analytical and statistical software and a data science toolkit such as Python or R.
  • Comprehensive SQL skills and a solid foundation in computer science principles including algorithms, data structures, and design methodologies.
  • Experience with big data tools (e.g., Spark, Hive) and exposure to cloud-based infrastructures.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Ability to perform independent research and maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive information.
  • Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, statistics, operations research, or a related field.
  • Relevant Experience: At least 3 years in Data Analytics and 2 years of programming experience.
  • Working Conditions: Office environment with up to 10% travel.
