Job Description

Position Overview

Join Noblis, a nonprofit research organization dedicated to advancing science and technology solutions for the public good. As an intern in our AI/ML research division, you'll have unique access to cutting-edge computational resources (H100s, B200s) enabling you to pursue innovative, large‐scale research on LLMs. At Noblis your work won’t just be theoretical—it will directly support real‐world Federal missions and contribute to making AI systems safer, more transparent, and better understood. This role offers a remote work arrangement during the school year with an in‐person component in the summer, ideally working up to 20 hours per week during the school year and a 10‑week in‑person summer experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on advanced LLM architectures, interpretability, alignment, and safety.
  • Design and execute experiments exploring the behavior of LLMs at scale (e.g. representation analysis, feature attribution, circuit‑level understanding, or automated interpretability techniques).
  • Collaborate with experienced researchers to develop innovative approaches that bridge theoretical research and practical AI challenges.
  • Communicate findings through presentations and written reports, contributing to broader organizational research objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • US Citizenship.
  • Familiarity with modern machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX, or similar tools.
  • Comfortable with modern software development practices including version control systems, automated testing, and debugging.
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related discipline, maintaining a 3.3 GPA with an expected graduation in 2026 or 2027.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Motivation to advance research with real‑world impact by deepening understanding and improving the transparency of LLMs.
  • Hands‑on experience working with large neural models.
  • Prior experience in a research lab or academic setting, particularly in machine learning, NLP, or AI.
  • Prior publications at top conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, AAAI, CVPR, ICRA, etc.).
  • Proven ability to independently pursue research, proactively contribute innovative ideas, and thrive within collaborative teams.

Benefits & Perks

  • Compensation: USD $23.00 - USD $38.00 per hour.
  • Total Rewards: Health, life, disability, financial, and retirement benefits.
  • Paid leave and work–life programs.
  • Professional development and tuition assistance.
