Job Description

Position Overview

Join our team as a Mechanical Design Engineer – Space Exploration Projects at Oceaneering Space Systems (OSS). In this role, you will contribute to the NASA JSC Engineering, Technology and Science II (JETS II) contract, working at the forefront of human spaceflight and deep space exploration. Collaborate with a passionate team in a dynamic environment that values innovation, quality, and continuous learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support NASA's future space exploration activities.
  • Work in a team environment to analyze requirements and develop design solutions.
  • Design, develop, test, analyze, and implement technical products and systems.
  • Perform engineering design evaluations and produce drawings conforming to applicable standards.
  • Conduct dimensional tolerance analyses, including thermal effects and GD&T.
  • Perform functional, structural, and thermal analyses as required.
  • Support design with hand calculations for fit, function, strength, and thermal response.
  • Prepare and present at various design reviews and produce related documentation.
  • Undertake additional duties as required.

Required Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering from an accredited institution with a focus on Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Typically a minimum of five (5) years of related experience.
  • Proficient in designing parts and assemblies using 3D CAD modeling software.
  • Experience producing drawings that conform to ASME Y14.5 standards.
  • Skilled in applying tolerance analyses, including thermal effects and GD&T.
  • Familiarity with machine shop processes and rapid prototyping (3D printing).
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior NASA (especially JSC) or aerospace development & manufacturing experience.
  • Familiarity with the JSC Engineering Drawing System Manual (JPR 8500) and Fabrication Tolerances and Practices (SKZ36103755).
  • Experience in designing NASA flight hardware and creating drawings for NASA/JSC.
  • Mechanisms or robotics design experience.
  • Experience using PTC CREO or Pro/Engineer with related extensions (Cabling, Piping, Sheetmetal, Simulation).
  • Experience leading technical design teams and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency and ability to pass a U.S. government background investigation.
