Animal Attendant- Research Support

Position Overview

UTHealth Houston is Texas’ resource for healthcare education, innovation, scientific discovery, and excellence in patient care. We are hiring for an Animal Attendant role that provides daily care for laboratory animals in a safe, humane, and sanitary environment. Under close supervision, you will handle feeding, watering, cage changing, cleaning animal housing areas, operating cage wash equipment, processing laundry, monitoring animal health, and maintaining PPE supplies.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide daily animal care including feeding, watering, cage changing, and sanitation of work areas.
• Operate the automated cage wash facility to process dirty equipment.
• Clean large animal caging, sanitize rooms, equipment, and hallways as directed.
• Assist in performing animal census counts and maintain related documentation.
• Operate washers and dryers to process laundry and package items for staff use.
• Monitor animal health and notify supervisors or veterinary teams of any changes.
• Learn proper animal care techniques through classes and hands-on training.
• Monitor and stock PPE supplies; assist with facility maintenance and general support duties.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Computer literacy required to perform daily duties.
• Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, or 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
• Must be able to handle the responsibilities of a security-sensitive position.
• Permanent residency and employment in the State of Texas is required.
