Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer for our Nashville, TN location. In this role, you will prepare design drawings using industry software, maintain high quality standards, work closely with project teams and clients, and perform on-site observations when necessary. Key Responsibilities

  • Process architectural drawings into 3D models for the design team.
  • Coordinate project setup and ensure the team has the current model by communicating with the architect.
  • Prepare electronic drawings with accuracy and efficiency using industry software.
  • Develop design approaches and concepts in coordination with the project engineer.
  • Implement design requirements as communicated by the design team.
  • Perform system design layout and sizing for assigned projects.
  • Assist in studies, load calculations, and equipment selection to fit project design.
  • Anticipate potential conflicts and propose solutions to team members.
  • Review shop drawings, track changes, and communicate details and schedules to all disciplines.
  • Attend project update meetings with clients and team members.
  • Coordinate with external and internal contacts such as owners, architects, and other disciplines.
  • Communicate design requirements and address contractor and supplier inquiries during bid and construction phases.
  • Maintain detailed records of communications with clients, contractors, vendors, and team members.
  • Coordinate contract documents with construction administrators; perform on-site inspections as needed, and possibly serve as Construction Administrator.
  • Perform collision changes in Navisworks as identified by the design team.
  • Visually review plans to identify defects in design work.
  • Assist in developing man-hour budgets and accurately quantify efforts required for tasks.
  • Collaborate with team members, project managers, and vendors to obtain necessary drawing information.
  • Help organize a complete package of assembled drawings.
  • Maintain a focus on the latest code requirements, design software, and industry trends.
  • Assist in training and mentoring designers and EITs.
  • Support data collection, field verification, and potentially take on project management responsibilities including establishing project scope, scheduling, client communications, and overseeing project profitability and QA/QC processes.
  • Collaborate with designers and engineers to standardize design practices and address current issues facing the design group.

Required Qualifications

  • Two-year technical degree in an applicable discipline plus six years of applicable experience, or eight years of applicable experience.
  • Minimum of three years of experience with large scope projects.
  • Revit experience (preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience in system or project designs with general technical supervision.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans from various disciplines such as architectural, structural, civil, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, and discipline-specific software (e.g., TRACE, HASS, SKM).
  • Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Understanding of state and/or local construction guidelines, applicable codes, and standards.
  • Familiarity with construction terminology, basic math, and systems integration.
  • Solid grasp of engineering theories and methodologies related to the discipline.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong comprehension and written communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to speak clearly, make sound judgments, and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Proven technical writing skills with the ability to explain technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Adept at mentoring peers and providing constructive feedback.
  • Demonstrated foresight in predicting project challenges and needs.
