Position Overview

Lab samples or specimens can hold the answers to a patient’s health problem, suffering or recovery. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you are the guardian that ensures the proper preparation, collection, preservation, transportation, and testing of samples. Your attention to detail and inquisitive nature are a perfect match for performing clinical laboratory testing of blood and bodily fluids, recording and evaluating findings, and reporting data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.

While you may not know your patients personally, every urine or blood sample connects you to someone in need of compassionate care. Your experiences, knowledge, skills, empathy, and dedication all add up to an essential role in our supportive diagnostic laboratory setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate both primary and secondary instrumentation proficiently, ensuring specimens are acceptable for testing and reporting test results.
  • Recognize and refer abnormal, unusual, and critical results to the supervisor.
  • Maintain knowledge of standard phlebotomy and skin puncture techniques, along with appropriate blood processing and handling procedures.
  • Follow universal precautions, safety, and infection control procedures, policies, and report any variances.
  • Prepare blood components while maintaining aseptic technique and proper storage.
  • Perform and evaluate serological reactivity and rapid antigen testing.
  • Conduct reagent quality control and analyze quality control material for each procedure.
  • Process, preserve, and ship specimens in compliance with established procedures.
  • Initiate orders for blood and/or blood components.
  • Operate, calibrate, perform performance checks, and maintain clinical laboratory instruments and equipment following orientation.
  • Retrieve results and resolve inquiries to assist nurses, physicians, or other hospital personnel.
  • Check instruments and benches for appropriate reagent and supply levels, ensuring adequate inventory for incoming shifts.

Required Qualifications

  • Licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS- Technician) through the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners
  • WORK SHIFT: Evenings (United States of America)
