Position Overview

This posting is for Summer 2026 New Grad opportunities. Join IMEG as a Mechanical Engineering New Grad and design the systems that keep buildings safe, efficient, and comfortable. In this entry-level role based in Location: New York, NY, you will work on energy-efficient schools, advanced research facilities, and other projects. You will use AutoCAD, Revit, and other design tools to collaborate with experienced engineers, develop HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems, and gain hands-on design, analysis, and project execution experience from day one. Salary: $75,000 - $77,000.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing and analyzing HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems using engineering software, producing designs, specifications, and calculations in accordance with codes and IMEG standards.
  • Engage with clients to gather requirements, communicate technical information, and maintain professional relationships.
  • Support project planning, scheduling, and execution to meet deadlines and objectives.
  • Document design decisions, relay client instructions, and monitor project progress.
  • Analyze engineering tasks of low to medium complexity and propose solutions with senior guidance.
  • Participate in quality control to ensure designs meet IMEG, industry, and client standards.
  • Stay current with mechanical engineering trends, technologies, and best practices while contributing to R&D efforts.
  • Prioritize safety and mitigate risks related to mechanical systems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated project solutions.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and concepts for producing technical plans and specifications.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills with understanding of thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics as they relate to HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
  • Familiarity with industry standard engineering software including HVAC load calculation tools and BIM software basics.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly express ideas both orally and in writing.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-focused environment and a willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
  • Ability to travel up to 5% with occasional overnight stays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry is preferred.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge in the use of BIM software.
