Job Description
Position Overview
Tech Serv, a rapidly growing consulting and engineering firm serving the electric utility and telecommunications industry since 1992, is seeking an entry-level Engineering Technician / Designer to join the Electrical Distribution team. In this in-office role, you will complete 2–3 weeks of hands-on training, gain industry certifications, and learn the client’s proprietary CAD software. You will support newbuilds, alterations, and redevelopment projects through planning, site evaluation, design analysis, and construction documentation. Travel of approximately 20% is required. This position offers significant growth opportunities and training provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Under general supervision, use proprietary drafting software (CAD) for client projects including newbuilds, alterations, and redevelopments.
- Execute electrical design assignments using standard drawings and comply with NES procedures.
- Implement design changes, including modifications on sketches, redlines, or mark-ups.
- Analyze reports, drawings, and tests to plan and design projects.
- Interpret and incorporate design codes and specifications.
- Review design drawings for quality assurance ensuring projects remain within scope, budget, and schedule.
- Complete project tasks and assignments within budgeted hours and deadlines.
- Collaborate with team members and leaders to support internal change initiatives.
- Assist with setting up projects in applicable project management systems with accurate data entry.
- Travel to regional job sites as specified by the client (approximately 20%).
Required Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).
- Ability to work collaboratively with Project Managers, Engineers, and other Tech/Designers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD, Micro Station, and SolidWorks.
- Knowledge of electrical design, calculations, and design systems.
- Experience working with electrical distribution systems.
- Associate's Degree in Drafting/Design Technology or a related field.
