Position Overview
The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) C4ISR Systems Division is seeking an entry-level Systems Engineer. The selected individual will work on a UARC team supporting the United States Government acquisition for the Sentinel Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) System and other Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) programs. Sentinel will be the nation's newest system providing strategic land-based nuclear deterrence. This position works closely with various government teams to enable collaboration in assessment of the prime contractor's current design, researching alternative approaches, and providing technical documentation to support decisions that align with defense industry's best practices and sound systems engineering principles. SDL creates novel solutions that impact national defense in space, air, land, and sea. If you enjoy challenging design problems, then we want you to join our team. Key Responsibilities
- Assists with decomposition of system level requirements to the lowest level of configured items.
- Works side-by-side with multiple engineering disciplines, within SDL as well as on the government and prime contractor teams.
- Helps ensure that all subsystems are designed to integrate across the system.
- Helps enable government ownership of the delivered baseline.
- Identifies and documents technical risk mitigation strategies.
- Supports the team in maintaining system documentation to enable government ownership of the delivered baseline.
- Conducts requirement and design analysis, producing digital engineering artifacts using MBSE tools like Cameo Systems Modeler.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in an engineering-related technical field (e.g., systems engineering, aerospace engineering, software engineering, electrical engineering).
- Experience Required: 2-5 years of relevant experience; entry-level candidates with internship or academic experience in systems engineering are encouraged to apply.
- Familiarity working with MBSE tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler or DOORS.
- Exposure to system documentation (e.g., Specifications, ICDs, System Architecture documents) through academic or internship experience.
- Experience working with cross-functional technical teams.
- Must possess strong team and interpersonal skills.
- Must possess effective oral and written communication skills.
- Awareness of system verification and validation planning processes.
- Basic knowledge of trade studies and design analysis techniques.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers.
- Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
- Must be able to travel on occasion.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1+ years of experience as a Systems Engineer.
- DoD program office experience.
- Master's degree in systems engineering or a related technical field.
- Active DoD SECRET clearance.
- Experience with Cameo System Modeler Software.
