Junior Software Engineer (3964)

Position Overview

SMX is seeking a highly motivated Junior Software Engineer to support the development of mission planning software for aircraft and weapons systems. In this role, you will join a team of driven and skilled professionals supporting program management, technical, and business case analysis within the NAVAIR community. This position is based onsite at Patuxent River NAS in southern Maryland.Application Deadline:1-31-2025

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze software engineering/software integration problems
• Perform software integration and testing for aircraft avionics systems
• Execute software management and integration functions, improve existing computer systems, and review system capabilities, throughput, and cybersecurity
• Develop and apply automated solutions to problems
• Utilize development tools for task updates, story tracking, check-ins, and version control
• Evaluate commercially available, open source, government furnished, and contractor furnished software
• Analyze architectural and functional requirements, specifications, and interfaces
• Contribute to software specifications and design proposed solutions

Required Qualifications

• Clearance Required: Secret
• BS or BA degree in a technical discipline
• At least one (1) year of experience in software engineering or development supporting DoD aircraft systems, weapons systems, mission systems, or support systems—including design, development, integration, and system testing of computer hardware and software
• Ability to decompose requirements into technical system and software requirements
• Experience with scripting, databases, and programming languages

Preferred Qualifications

• Basic Linux/Windows troubleshooting skills
• Bash Scripting
