Job Description
Position Overview
UChicago Medicine is seeking a Sterile Processing Manager for the Sterile Processing Department. This full-time, 100% onsite role, based in the greater Chicagoland area, is responsible for overseeing all aspects of departmental operations – from staffing and policy development to inventory management and process improvement. The successful candidate will ensure regulatory compliance, manage budgets, and utilize SPM technology effectively while promoting team collaboration and exceptional service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the sterile processing department including planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling personnel and resources.
- Interview, select, orient, and evaluate employees while addressing grievances and enforcing departmental policies.
- Provide administrative support and ensure compliance with standards set by regulatory agencies and JCAHO.
- Develop, implement, and monitor policies, procedures, and performance improvement initiatives, including budget oversight and fiscal management.
- Manage inventory levels and utilize available SPM technology for improved process efficiency.
- Facilitate staff training, performance reviews, and competency documentation to ensure high operational standards.
- Promote team building and maintain effective communication with physicians, nursing staff, and other stakeholders.
- Handle special and emergency requests, coordinating resolutions with administration and relevant parties.
Required Qualifications
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years as a CS technician and 2 years in a leadership role.
- Thorough knowledge of OR instrumentation, medical terminology, and operating room processes.
- Proficiency in various sterilization modalities coupled with case cart and inventory experience.
- Experience in departmental budget management.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with basic computer proficiency in Word, Excel, and email.
- Proficiency in SPM inventory management technology.
- Certification for Central Service Technician is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor degree.
- RN, LPN, or OR Tech with OR experience.
- Purchasing experience.
- Experience with employees covered under bargaining unit contracts.
- Proficiency with PowerPoint.
