Position Overview

UTHealth Houston - UT Physicians International District is hiring a Medical Assistant to join their team of professionals in southwest Houston (10623 Bellaire Blvd). In this role you will gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and rapidly expanding clinical setting. A successful Medical Assistant possesses a blend of clinical, administrative, and interpersonal skills to ensure smooth patient care and efficient office operations. Schedule: Day 8am-5pm Mon-Friday / 8am-12pm Saturday.

You will work as a key member of the clinical team supporting quality patient care that is safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote quality patient care and customer service/satisfaction.
  • Participate in planning and preparing for patient visits, ensuring appropriate schedules, test results, and clinic-specific requirements are available.
  • Room patients in accordance with clinic needs by documenting chief complaint, vital signs, medication lists, and other required information while keeping patients informed of delays.
  • Perform clinical procedures as validated by competency including hearing and vision testing, EKGs, spirometry, point of care testing, specimen collection, and equipment cleaning/reprocessing.
  • Prepare and stock exam rooms and clinic supplies in advance and ensure proper cleaning between patient visits.
  • Assist with routine and specialty procedures as needed.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments or referrals and perform routine clerical duties such as photocopying, scanning, and faxing.
  • Handle telephone messaging and in-person screening with proper follow-up.
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months of experience or successful completion of an approved Medical Assistant training program.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association is required.
  • Proficiency in using standard clinic equipment and knowledge of medical terminology, scheduling, insurance billing, and coding.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including empathy, clear communication, teamwork, confidentiality, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of an approved Medical Assistant training program (preferred over on‐the‐job training alone).
  • Additional strengths such as bilingual fluency, CPR certification, and strong time management.
