Job Description

Position Overview

Assists with responding promptly to consults, admissions, and provider rounds (writing notes, orders, wound care, etc.). Enters admission, pre and post-operative and consultative orders in a timely fashion. Facilitates preparation of patients for surgery and ensures timely communication with family and patients. Willing to work flexible assigned shifts and be on-call while ensuring compliance with HIPAA and billing regulations. Adheres to institutional and departmental policies and procedures and supports the CARES Values of University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC-El Paso).

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to consults, admissions, and participate in provider rounds.
  • Enter admission, pre and post-operative, and consultative orders in a timely fashion.
  • Facilitate preparation of patients for surgery.
  • Ensure timely communication with family and patients.
  • Work flexible assigned shifts and be available for on-call responsibilities.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA and billing regulations.
  • Adhere to institutional and departmental policies while supporting CARES Values.

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledgeable of acute care patient standard practices.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Developed effective working relationships with physicians and the interdisciplinary team.
  • Works well with people of all social, economic, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Flexible, open-minded, and adaptable to change.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills with the ability to convey understanding of complex issues.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to read and comprehend English sufficiently to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions.
  • Experience Required: Three years of experience as a Registered Nurse in the ED/ICU or other critical care setting.
  • Current Texas or compact RN license to practice in the State of Texas.
  • Current TX Advance Practice License.
  • Current Advance Nurse Practitioner certification.
  • Current CPR and training program certification.
  • ACLS obtained within 6 months of being in the position.
  • Education: Master degree in Nurse Practice required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year experience as a Nurse Practitioner preferred.
  • ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support course) preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred; must be culturally sensitive.
