Job Description
Position Overview
The Public Health Operations Manager is accountable for managing the brand’s public health programs that safeguard shipboard populations against environmental and communicable disease risks. This role coordinates rapidly with both shipboard and shoreside teams to maintain high public health standards, oversee public health events including disease outbreaks, and lead the recruitment, evaluation, and training of public health officers.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Support: Manage Fleet Public Health Officers (FPHOs) and shipboard Public Health Officers (PHOs), coordinate routine meetings, analyze data to identify training needs, support responses to public health threats, and develop evidence-based programs.
- Compliance & Continuous Quality Improvement: Develop and review performance metrics, ensure flexible and targeted environmental health inspections, manage corrective actions, and report on public health inspection results.
- Policy & Procedures: Assist in developing, updating, and implementing public health policies while communicating the brand’s priorities and anticipating risks.
- Financial Management: Contribute to the annual financial plan, monitor adherence for cost containment, and manage the payment of invoices for public health programs.
- People Management & Development: Set clear training and performance expectations, conduct appraisals, hire and schedule FPHOs and PHOs, and foster accountability.
- Training: Identify fleet and individual training needs, assist with development and updates to training programs, and facilitate effective training sessions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in public health, environmental health, biological sciences or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in environmental or public health with at least 2 years managing public health programs/operations.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with excellent interpersonal and analytical skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in public health or a related field.
- Certification as a registered environmental health specialist (or equivalent).
